Chillin' by the Beach

So it was one, hot Sunday morning. My boyfriend and I decided to go somewhere we've never been before and since it was excruciatingly hot, we wanted to go somewhere cool and breezy. We heard about this restaurant by the beach, not far from Dumangas Wharf. They say they served good food and that the place was pretty much relaxing.

True enough, the place took me away from my worries that day. The wind wafting through my hair and touching my skin-- it was just awesome! Just what I needed to take the stress away.

We ordered some seafood including the calamari, some tuna and another dish (I forgot). The food was really great! I really loved the tuna!!! Yum. Yum. Yum.
We had a good time and it was one good way to stay out of the house but not heading straight to the mall. It's what most people do nowadays because of the weather.

So he was happy. And I was happy.
End of story.

Capiz Shells

The first time I was able to eat Capiz shells was when my family and I went to this private island in Ajuy (pronounced as ah-hooy, with the accent on the first syllable). The island was about 200 square meters when we arrived at around 10 a.m. and it slowly submerges into the water during high tide, making it look like a huge piece of rock about 35 square meters wide. As we sailed back, we saw the island getting smaller and smaller.

We were awestruck by the island's little yet magnificent view. We saw tiny fishes, which the fisherman who accompanied us to the island called "Zebra" bee cause they had those stripes similar to those found on zebras. As simple as that.

My father and cousins were busy fishing in the hope of catching fish which I knew they couldn't catch in the island. [I knew deep down inside they felt like little kids feeling so good about going to the beach.] I knew they weren't good on fishing but if you were on the island with us, you'd do the same thing-- trying to catch fish when you knew you couldn't.

The sand was like those you'd find in Boracay, very fine and white. It was so much fun hanging out in the island and pristine waters.

Well, today I had the opportunity to eat these shells again. I only know two ways to cook these shells-- grilled and steamed. When you grill these shells, all you have to do is to simple put the shells on top of the griller and wait until it starts to open. When you steam these shells, you also wait for the shells to open, indicating that it's cooked and ready to eat.

I haven't eating baked Capiz shells. I never even heard about it but if you know, please tell me. I'd love to try that one out!

Oyster House Seafood Restaurant

I have always loved eating sea foods! I love eating fresh and grilled fish and tuna. I like seafood mixes cooked with worcestershire sauce and vegetables and so much more. This love for these kinds of foods may be brought about by the fact that lloilo has got great fishing grounds and is a home to various seafood products.

These shells are called Diwal because they look like tongues stuck out.
In Ilonggo, diwal means to stick one's tongue out.
This aquarium contains sea water so the shells won't die.
Other places which are very rich in sea foods include RoxasEstanciaAntique and San Joaquin. [If I forgot a few places, just remind me, and I’ll delightfully make an additional entry here.] I’ve been to these places and I was always served with delectable seafood dishes. These foods are just mouthwatering!

Anyway, we went to Oyster House today. This cute yet homey restaurant is located along Brgy. Sta. Filomena in Villa, Iloilo City. They have an impressive menu with a few food titles I never heard before.

So, here it is. I present to you: Oyster House Seafood Restaurant
Artistic plating and garnishing, huh?

Spicy Oyster
Their waiters and staff are very accommodating and resourceful. They make it a point to let you understand every dish you might just be interested on or a similar dish you’re looking for.

Jinky's Platter

A lover of food, fun, adventure and football. Meet Jesslyn Kate Gubatanga. She's currently hooked to three things she considers very crucial in her life right now:

Study
[She's taking up her masteral's degree at the Central Philippine University (CPU) and nearly gets time to sleep. But now that duty days are over, she can definitely allot more time for sleep.]

Football
[She's been playing the game since college and continues to take on the sport, joining various competitions versus alumnae at the West Visayas State University and CPU.]

Food
[She's really into food. If you don't find her in school, at home or elsewhere, she's definitely having the time of her life, trying a new entree, dessert or any other treat she hasn't tried eating yet.]

I named this page Jinky's Platter to honor her undying love for not just food but great tasting and quality FOOD! This is where good food takes her. Take a look and enjoy!
